How did Yahusha, our Messiah, Walk?

“The one who says he stays in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked.” – 1 John 2:6

When I first took up long-distance running, I would look to other accomplished runners to learn how to do it properly. I was a disciple, eager to soak up all the knowledge and advice they had to offer. It was through their guidance and example that I was able to improve and reach my goals. I would warm up and do drills like them, wear the same shoes and clothing, eat the same foods, and even talk the same lingo. I figured that if I were to be a good runner one day, I should emulate those who already were good runners. To me, it seemed that the seasoned professionals knew what they were doing, and as a disciple of the sport, I should be paying attention.

The standard definition of “disciple” is someone who adheres to the teachings of another.  It is a follower or a learner.  I thought about this while on a run several years ago, and realized I really wasn’t learning to follow Yahusha (Jesus). We have but one example of righteousness, yet we often live contrary to Him (or at least I do).  Even though He came to express Yahuah’s instructions, the Torah, to its fullness.

With this in mind, I started to think about how Yahusha walked?  How did He conversate with others?  What did He eat? (or not eat).  What days and appointed times did He observe?  What Torah (or commandments) did He keep?  And when it came to my walk, how could I properly disciple after Him?

Do you remember those WWJD bracelets back in the 90’s?  “What would Jesus do?” I think it’s time we look closer at how our Messiah Yahusha lived.

Paul tells us to… “Become imitators of me, as I also am of Messiah.  And I praise you, brothers, that you remember me in every way and keep the traditions as I delivered them to you.” – 1 Corinthians 11:1-2

Yahusha says to us…“Take My yoke upon you and learn FROM Me…” – Matthew 11:29

To fully carry out our command of making disciples (Matthew 28:19), we must first understand what a disciple is…and that means understanding how to imitate Yahusha, the Messiah.

These are important questions we should consider… if we claim to know Him. The road is a lot more narrow than one might think.

We cannot save ourselves.  It is Yahusha Messiah that will bring us to salvation on the last day.  But if we claim to know Him, and claim to have faith in Him, we will walk in His behavior and be redeemed from all “lawlessness”, as Paul says, “Our Saviour Yahusha Messiah…who gave Himself for us, to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for Himself a people, his own possession, ardent for good works.” – Titus 2:14

This is the beginning of a journey towards becoming redeemed, set-apart, and cleansed for our Messiah Yahusha!
